Augmented reality

Augmented reality

Augmented reality refers to a virtual interface, in 2D or 3D, that enriches reality by superimposing additional information

Principle and functioning of augmented reality

The technology works through a terminal that films the real world and inverts live virtual objects, animations, texts, data, sounds that the user views from the screen. It can be a smartphone, a touch pad, a pair of glasses, a helmet or a head-up display system.

The synchronization of the real world and virtual information is done from geolocation and embedded sensors (accelerometer, gyroscopes ...) that locate the user in relation to its environment and adapt the display to its movements.

Augmented reality applications: training, video games ...

The fields of application affect both leisure (with video games) as education, medicine, but also industry. One of the sectors that uses augmented reality the most is training: this allows technicians to learn new procedures in real conditions. For example, facing a new device, the person can discover the disassembly procedure step by step by seeing the instructions appear in real time.

In the cultural field, augmented reality applications allow tourists or museum visitors to discover the history of places or works by pointing the camera of their smartphone in their direction. In France, one of the main events devoted to augmented reality is the Laval Virtual show, which allows you to discover the latest trends in the field every year.
